I swear I'm not tired

"What do you mean it's bed time?  I have a toy and I'm ready to play!"

"Aww, come on, give it back!"

Early Christmas present

We opened presents and had Christmas dinner with Daniel's family today and they even got Zoe a box full of toys.

I think it more than made up for us not bringing her along.  She was full of excitement to see the new toys.  Full body wags and butt tucks for about 10 minutes or so.

Tomorrow we will be spending Zoe's first official Christmas with my parents and she will join in on the excitement.

New Christmas collar

I just couldn't resist getting this adorable Martha Stewart Holiday collar for Zoe.  Isn't she precious in it?

Did you say bark park?

While we don't go everyday like we used to, I still manage to take Zoe to her favorite place on earth,  Millie Bush Bark Park at least a couple times a week.

I'm still so amazed at how well she plays fetch.  I've never had a dog that was into retrieving and I kind of got used to Zoe going after a toy but never brining it back.  I just figured that's how she would always be and I even started calling her a "Labrador Receiver."

It makes me so happy to watch her and Daniel play.  She would play a game of fetch all day now if we let her.

When it's raining on a Sunday

It's been raining just about all day today which means Zoe didn't get to go to the park or get much outdoor playtime.  It's kind of sad because this past week she has developed an addiction to tennis balls.  It's all she wants to play with at the park now which is surprising for me because she never really had a care in the world for them before.  I guess that means my Lab is growing up?

When we do play fetch indoors we always make sure to praise her and give a treat every time she brings the ball back to us.  She's such a fast learner!  She's just about perfect at bringing the ball back and dropping it for the next throw.  Daniel now wants to work on having Zoe drop the ball in his hand.

And here is a video of Zoe in action and Daniel doing some training with her.

Long walks and natures beaty

Yesterday evening Zoe and I went on one of our usual walks and stopped at the rentention pond for some off leash time and a swim.

I love love love coming out here when the sun is setting.  Even before we got Zoe I would come out here and just walk with my head phones on and enjoy a bit of nature's beauty.

There is a small bayou as well but Zoe is terrified to walk around it.  Silly dog she is.

I have to say it is really nice having a dog that loves to swim, they tire out so much easier.  All I have to do is throw a stick or a toy a few times in the water and she's fully excercised.

Though sometimes she needs a good run afterwards.

Gorgeous fall day at Millie Bush

Today was one of those perfect Texas Autumn days.  You know, those days where everyone is updating their status about how beautiful it is outside while your stuck in an office?  Luckily I work from home and even though I was very busy today I couldn't pass up a chance to enjoy this lovely weather with my four legged friend.

The park was pretty bare today and while Zoe did have a few other dogs to play with when we first got to Millie Bush Bark Park, they didn't seem to stay long.  This park will always be my favorite dog park.  I always enjoy the people and the conversation and rarely do I see aggressive dogs here.

While this past Summer's drought did kill most of the trees and put huge cracks / holes in the ground, some did manage to survive and bring beautiful foliage.

Zoe loves to chase the leaves blowing in the wind.  At one point she even tried to scoop up a mouthful of leaves from the lake.  That's my dog!

"Do I want the toy or the leaves?  I can't decide!!!!"

A gloomy day at Katy Dog Park

A little rain definitely didn't stop me from taking Zoe to the dog park this morning.  She was full of energy the moment she woke up, so what better way to tire her out than going to the dog park.

Zoe was in full hunting mode while the squirrels were on the ground getting food.  As long as she is responding when I call her and not getting into any trouble I'm all for it.  She did get tired out pretty quickly too.

Of course she had to take a few trips to the water since it was quite warm today.  Actually it was pretty gross today, very muggy and just plain blah.  It could just be the time change that's getting to me though.

Rise and shine sleepy head

This is what I get to wake up to every morning.  It never fails to put a big smile on my face.  :)

Oh, and Happy Halloween from Daniel, Ali and Zoe!

It's Fall Y'all!

While Zoe is still recovering from getting spayed she longs for some much needed playtime in the courtyard.  In the meantime she is enjoying this lovely fall weather from our patio.  Poor girl. :\

Skyler joins in on the fun as well.  He follows Zoe everywhere and never was much of an outside cat.  I guess he feels that if Zoe is allowed patio access then he is too.

Luckily they are both behaving themselves around my carved pumpkins.  I thought for sure she would chew them to pieces.  Perhaps there's hope for me having a Christmas tree this year after all?  *crosses fingers*

Fast recovery

Yesterday morning I checked Zoe's stitches and I noticed a bit of redness.  I was a little worried at first but after speaking with the Vet and rereading the instruction sheet I was reassured that this was perfectly normal.

Just to be safe I keep checking the stitches regularly and so far all redness is gone and the incision is healing perfectly.

By day two Zoe was already back to her normal peppy self.  She just doesn't understand that she can't go out in the courtyard and play with her doggy buddies, so she is whining and giving me sad panda faces a lot.  Oy!

Dazed and Confused

Someone got spayed today and is not happy about it.  We took her into our vet this morning at 7:30am and picked her up at 1:30pm.  She was very delirious but obviously happy to see us.  Once we got home she stopped at the door and waited for us to unleash her and went straight for the bedroom, stood in front of the bed and Daniel carefully lifted her up.  This dog isn't spoiled at all!!  I'm just happy she is doing well and resting.  The next 7 to 10 days should be interesting.

Ice Ice Baby

Zoe has a bit of an obsession with ice cubes.  We started giving ice to her when she was a teething pup and just never stopped.  If she hears me open the freezer door she ninjas her way over to me and sits down behind me like a well trained dog.  Though she's far from it haha.

Two blue bows

Sunny was groomed and shaved at Petsmart a few days ago.  We were a little shocked, confused and humored by what we saw when we picked her up from the groomer.  Two blue bows!  I called them granny bows.  Zoe wanted nothing to do with Sunny or her bows haha.

Surfside Beach

Surfside Beach, the air is crisp and the water is clear.  Does it get more beautiful than this?  What a great day!

Zoe had a blast with Cassie, my parent's dog.  I was sad that Daniel couldn't be there with us.

Happy dogs running free.

Training has definitely been paying off because Zoe had no trouble being off leash and coming when called.  I can't wait to go back again.  We were all sad to leave.

Welcome

Hi, I'm Alison and I have an 1 year old black lab mix named Zoe. She was found wandering around by herself near a highway at just 5 weeks old. While her story begins sad, she has had nothing short of a spoiled, happy and healthy life since coming home with me and my boyfriend.
